Book Review: In the Temple of the Ordinary Vol. 2

Updated: Oct 21

In the Temple of the Ordinary Vol. 2 is a collection of 150 poems and reflections that celebrate the wonders in the everyday, the miracles we barely notice unless we are open and communing with the world around us.

Molly Remer's keen observations of nature will make you feel as though you are walking with her through the forest, pausing to notice the buds on a magnolia tree or a hummingbird's tiny, carefully woven nest. Each poem pulls you into the present moment, inviting you to be fully absorbed in and with the divine as it exists in all beings.

Nothing is too small or insignificant, as this excerpt from "Prayer for Attending" (p. 53) illustrates so well:

May I listen to the whispersof the sacred through all things,

the kiss of enchantment on the wind,

the light sweep of a swallowtail butterfly

across the sky,

the shadow of a vulture's wings

across my brow,

the sound of a crow's call

rising from the woodland

as the dogwood trees

burst into bloom.

As a devotee of Goddess spirituality and practitioner of Druidry, I found this collection to be an excellent companion for my own spiritual walk and for inspirational readings during circles and gatherings. On days when the news of the world is overwhelming, this book is a reminder of the sacredness of life. May we return to the altar again and again "in the temple of the ordinary."
